Google Fix Gmail Error Messages in IOS
A number of Gmail users reported an error message when trying to access this email service from their IOS devices. Google says, they are now fixing the issue.

Quoted from Cnet, Saturday (11/08/2012), the affected user's problem, receive an error message with the word "mail service imap.gmail.com is not responding" when logging in on his account.

Quick response, Google through Gmailnya forum said, "We are aware of the issue and are working to improve the accounts affected."

Internet company is then advised to access the Gmail email service via a web browser on your computer. Google also has posted this issue here are some possible improvement in Gmail Known Issues page.
