Adobe releases AIR for Android runtime

Adobe releases AIR for Android runtime .Adobe Flash Player caters to the mobile web applications that are integrated into the browser while AIR is meant for the standalone web applications and won't be hindered by limitations of mobile web browsers. Here's what developers can make best of:

- Enhanced application security models
- Utilize locally stored data
- Offline or online use cases which result improved performance and reliability
- GPS support
- More flexible distribution and monetization models for standalone applications through catalogs and online marketplaces compared to browser based applications

Michael Hu, Sr. Product Marketing Manager for Adobe AIR, addressed at the Adobe AIR Team blog that Adobe Flash Platform tools will allow for AIR apps to be compiled and delivered to Android, iOS, BlackBerry Tablet OS devices and more. Now this is interesting since Adobe announced to cease iPhone App developer after Creative Suite 5 version. This may be a result after Apple recently revised App Store Developer Agreement.

Before you get excited about the new AIR for Android, take a look at the hardware-software requirements:

-Android 2.2 Froyo update
-ARMv7-A Processor
-256 MB of RAM
-OpenGL ES2.0
-H.264 & AAC H/W Decoders

Download Adobe AIR for Android from Android Market and get started with rich internet applications on your handset.
