Google's Android mobile platform Symbian has become obsolete for the smartphone platform above the 4th quarter of 2010, research firm Canalys reports.
Worldwide sales of Android phones in the fourth quarter of 2010 was 33.3 million compared to EUR 31 million Symbian OS. Apple is in third place, 16.2 million IOS equipment will be delivered after RIM had 14.6 million and Microsoft with 3.1 million devices shipped.
Overall, the worldwide smartphone market grew 89 percent compared to Q4 2009, over 100 million units for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Android has been adopted by manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, Acer and HTC, each experiencing excellent results with devices based on this platform.
The leadership change was expected that Nokia has recently reported sales of comparable smartphones weak as a result of the company strives to transform its Symbian platform in a worthy competitor to Apple's IOS and Google Android.
